My Views on the movie - Veetla Visesham
I know this must be a very late review on the remake movie - Veetla Visesham.
Post the movie release, I came across the plot of the movie! 2 questions were running in my mind!
1. Why did RJ Balaji go for a remake?
2. Why did he choose this plot for a remake?
When I enquired few people who watched the movie, they gave me different responses, let me list a few!
"This movie says how attached a family must be"
"We don't need more money to be happy as a family"
"Child planning is very important in life. We should be financially ready to face things"
But in one or two interviews of RJ Balaji before the release of the movie, he more or less mentioned, this movie has changed his perspective towards women, especially the mothers. But none of these responses above reflected this thought.
I was initially reluctant to watch this movie because of the plot. I came across sneek peek in youtube and the movie also had a world television premiere. I didn't watch it even then. But those 2 questions were still unanswered. Out of curiosity, I forced myself to watch the movie after 2-3 months.
I do not want to get into the plot, but i felt there is an indirect message conveyed in the movie. For expression and emotional sake, I had to use tanglish! Excuse me for that 🙏
Urvasi is a homemaker. You could have noticed at many places - urvasi's dialogue to sathyaraj would have been: 'unna pathiyae yosikriye ena pathi yosikriya'
Scene1: When she wants to have that baby, he will think about money. At that time, she will say, 'nan yen pethukanumnu yosichen nu en emotions ah ninachiya, unaye yosikriye'.
Scene2: Marriage house in Kerala: He will try to apply dye to his hair. She will ask him, 'elarume ena oru madhiriya treat panranga, adha pathi yosikriya'
Scene 3: Same place as scene2. She will ask, '50 vayasula nee petha ambala singam idhuve nan na asingama ena nyayam idhu'
The whole movie has this content every where in every scene where men are shown to be focussed and concerned on their needs including rj Balaji.
And women are shown to focus everywhere. Like aparna will understand the parenting part and her explanation to rj Balaji is not to convince him but to make him realize everyone has the right to take decision on their life. The way she makes her mom understand is the ultimate sketching of her character.
Ladies - urvasi, aparna, granny and aparna's mom - elarume steady ah irupanga in what they stand
Gents - sathyaraj, balaji, his brother - elarume fix ilama irupanga
This is what rj Balaji wants to convey to us.
Are we really understanding ladies at home??
We talk about feminism, growth of ladies but how do we react when it comes to ladies of our home - this was the statement he told in an interview. If we map it now, we can connect this idea.
Ladies in Kerala wanted to chide urvasi for her lifestyle and they take her situation as a weapon. When a woman is in trouble, only another woman can support her-nu strong ah solirupanga in the scene where granny supports urvasi and stands for her. But even there, sathyaraj will try to dissolve that discussion to please other ladies. Every where he is messing nu first lirundhu katirupanga. His stand is not proper and that's the reason urvasi sticks to him amidst many odds. Eventhough it is a negative aspect, urvasi is happy in the family side aspect, because of that trait in her hubby to take stands for mom and wife.
In few places urvasi's lifestyle, dressing, jewels would have been commented. That's where aparna's dialogue to balaji will work - 'amma na ipadi dhan irukanum ipadi dhan react pananumnu un mind ah nee condition paniruka'
That's the message to the audience: Individuality pathi vaai kizhiya pesurom, veetla irukravangaloda individuality ah ethanai peru respect panrom?
So the questions to us:
1. Nama friends la irukura girls madhiri dhan nama veetu girls ah pakuroma?
2. Girls ah irukura friends ku ena conditions vachrukom, veetla irukura women kita ena expect panrom?
Both the questions literally mean the same, but perspective differs!
Overall, it's a movie to trigger our thoughts deeper. A slow screen play failed to do it. Technically, the movie has ups and downs. I am not getting into it. But the message inferred from the movie, has to broaden our thinking.
Hope this discussion would have seeded something in our minds!
